Portfolio Escénico Theatrium NEPA

Light, Space, and the Living Stage

A creative studio and portfolio platform for a collective of performing artists in northeastern Pennsylvania. We specialize in lighting design, scenography, movement direction, and technical production for original works and reimagined classics. Our archive documents the process — from set sketches and floor plans to regional tours and collaborations with emerging playwrights.

What a production team gains from working with us

Built for the realities of the stage

Lighting plots that respect the venue

Every space has its own limits — low ceilings, odd angles, no grid. We design around what is actually there, so the cue sheet works from the first tech rehearsal.

Less rework, faster load-in
Scenography that moves with the actors

Sets are built for blocking, not just for looks. We sketch every piece against the movement score, so transitions stay fluid and nothing blocks a sightline.

Cleaner staging, fewer compromises
Movement direction tied to the text

Gesture and spacing come from the dramaturgy, not from a generic style. We shape physical language that supports the play's rhythm and emotional arc.

Performances that feel intentional
Production documents a festival can read fast

Ground plans, cue synopses, and costume boards are kept clear and consistent. Programmers and cultural managers get the full picture without a long call.

Quicker booking decisions
Regional touring experience baked in

We know what travels: gear that packs small, plots that adapt to different stages, and schedules that respect load-out times. No surprises on the road.

Reliable runs outside the home venue
Mentorship for emerging playwrights

Our residency work pairs new texts with hands-on design support, from first reading to final performance. Writers see their work staged with full technical care.

New work reaches the stage sooner

Why programmers and cultural managers choose our collective

Built for the realities of regional theatre

Technical depth you can verify Every lighting plot, ground plan, and costume sketch in our archive is documented with process notes, not just final photos. Festival programmers can review the full design rationale before committing to a slot.

Adaptable to unconventional venues Warehouses, black boxes, church halls, and outdoor stages — we have worked in all of them. Our team designs with the architecture, not against it, which means fewer surprises during load-in and tech week.

Collaboration with emerging writers Our residency program pairs playwrights with designers early in the development process. The result is work where text, movement, and visual language are shaped together, not stitched together late in rehearsal.

Regional touring experience We know the distances, the load-in windows, and the house crews across northeastern Pennsylvania. That practical knowledge keeps production budgets predictable and schedules realistic.

Production & Residency FAQ

Straight answers for festival programmers, cultural managers, and artists considering a collaboration with our collective.

What does a typical technical rider include?

We provide a full lighting plot, a ground plan with scenic elevations, and a cue breakdown for each production. For touring work, we also include a patch schedule and a list of our own equipment versus what the venue supplies, so the advance process is clear from the start.

Can you adapt a show for a non-traditional venue?

Yes. Our Scranton Warehouse project is a good example: we built a lighting grid from existing beams and used practicals to shape the space. We usually ask for a site visit or a detailed floor plan, then we adjust the design to fit the architecture and the audience flow.

How do you handle residencies with emerging playwrights?

We typically work in two phases: a development week focused on readings and movement exploration, then a production phase with full design support. We provide a mentor for the playwright and a clear timeline for tech rehearsals, so the new work gets a proper staging without overloading the writer.

Do you tour productions outside northeastern Pennsylvania?

We do. Recent tours have gone to regional festivals in the Lehigh Valley and the Poconos. We keep the set modular and the lighting plot compact, which makes load-in and strike faster. If you have a specific venue in mind, we can share a technical pack with dimensions and power requirements.

What information do you need to prepare a production proposal?

Send us the performance space dimensions, the available power capacity, and the rough schedule of the event. If you have a stage plot or a photo of the empty space, that helps us give a more accurate estimate of the design approach and the crew needed.

Can you collaborate with a director who has a specific visual concept?

Absolutely. We start with a concept meeting where we discuss the director's references and the practical limits of the venue. From there, we produce a mood board and a scaled ground plan. We prefer to iterate early, so the final design feels like a shared vision rather than a fixed template.
